Our 2014 Reunion
September 26–28
Hilton Kansas City Airport
We had a great time!
On Thursday evening, early arrivals gathered for dinner at the Hereford House, at nearby Zona Rosa.
During our business meeting, we received a briefing on the exciting mission of TriStar Group, which has acquired the original TWA Wings of Pride MD-80 and an L-1011 for educational purposes. For more intormation on this group, go to:
Jon Proctor presented President and co-founder Kerry Floyd (left) and Vice President/Secretary Mike Saxton with a TWA TriStar photo on behalf of the
DCS Alumni Association.
Our Saturday morning field trip took us first to the National Airline History Museum, formerly Save-A-Connie, where we were given a tour of the facility.
In the background is the original factory-delivered TWA DC-3.
The Connie interior has been restored to look much the way it did when TWA flew the type.
Kathleen Galindo, Jon Proctor and Gary Smedile languish in the airline days
of yesteryear, when flying was grand and non-revs amost always got on.
This Martin 404, in TWA colors but SAC titles, originally flew for Eastern.
Behind it is a replica of the TWA Rocket to the Moon that thrilled us as
young kids at Disneyland!
We marveled at all the TWA memorabilia in the museum. Below, Bill Nelson explains to wife Moneta what it was like in the good old days.
Another TriStar print was given to NAHM President Bob Glover (left) and
Vice-President-Operations John Roper. This picture, taken at Las Vegas
in 1975, is of the same L-1011 that now resides at the museum.
Then it was on to the TWA Museum at 10 Richards Road, first for lunch.
Gwynne (DiFeo) and Bill Shiels
Mert Nason won a door prize! Next to him are Stacey and Jim Spaeth.
Welcome back, Chris and Bob Stellingworth; we missed you last year.
De Wiley and Kathleen Galindo pose by the Lockheed 12A Electra.
The museum is a veritable TWA treasure chest. For those who have not yet been to it, this is a must-see.

John and Margaret Bartell
Evelyn Spath-Merado and Jennifer Larssen fought the ATC wars and barely got to Kansas City in time for Saturday dinner; their trip report was epic and getting home wasn't a walk in the park either. Bless you both, Ladies! Kathleen Galindo, in the background, came in a day early, unscathed.
Jon Proctor and Gary Smedile, below; Ken Juergens and Mert Nason above.
Flashback! Above: Hank & Phyllis Krueger's daughter, Ashley Martin, made a cameo appearance at our 2004 Kanas City reunion, just to see her Uncle Jon Proctor and Uncle Dale Kreimer, who lived nearby in Chicago when she was
just a little girl. Below: Ten years later and still forever young, Ashley
renewed memories with her DCS uncles, along with Mom and Dad.
Congratulations to Jennifer Larssen, who won the door prize, this beautiful signed Mike Machat litho, entitled "Evening Star," and many thanks to Mike
for donating the image to our group.
NOTE: We would like to post more pictures. If
anyone has additional images, please e-mail
them to Jon. Thank you!
