John Truex
Although not a DCS, John Truex was Vice President of InFlight Service as well as an affiliate member and true friend of our organization. Our sincere condolences go out to John's family and loved ones.
John Franklin Truex, 90, died February 25, 2015, in St. Louis, Mo. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Doris (Ward), daughter, Charlotte "Kit" Mair (Mike) of Shawnee, Kan.; son, Richard J. Truex of St. Louis;two grandsons, Richard "Chip" Truex of Portland, Ore., and Jeffrey Mair of Shawnee; granddaughters,Victoria Truex, and Alexandra Truex. He was preceded in death by a twin brother who died at birth; son, Robert William, brother, Dr. Everett Truex, sister, Dr. Dorothy Truex and parents, Rev. Chester and Madge Truex, who were active from 1900 to 1950 in Missouri Baptist denominational work.
John was born August 1924 in Palmyra, Mo., lived in Plattsburg, Mo., and grew up and attended high school in Liberty, Mo. He earned a Bachelor of Arts from William Jewell College in 1947. He served as National Alumni President, Trustee
and Trustee Emeritus and a member of the staff in fund-raising. While he maintained an amazing number of Alumni contacts over the past 80 years, he was Honored in 1969 with an Achievement Award and the Truex Lifetime Service
Award, created in his honor in 1996.
He was an active member of Kappa Alpha Order and received the order's highest
recognition with the Knight Commander's Accolade in 2004. His military service included a Bronze Star as a tank commander (Sergeant) in World War II serving in the ETO. Mr. Truex joined Trans World Airlines after attending Northwestern University and served in various management capacities over 34 years. He was a Regional Vice-president in Kansas City and St. Louis from 1967 to 1975 and served as a Corporate Vice President in New York until he took early retirement in 1982.
For 20 years he was engaged in executive search work with Morton-McCorkle & Associates, St. Louis. He completed the Executive Program at Stanford University in 1973. As a son of a Baptist minister, John has been active in Baptist Churches in Liberty and at Delmar and Kirkwood churches in St. Louis. He was a deacon for more than 55 years. He was an Eagle Scout, Warrior in the Tribe of MicO-Say and served at the Regional and Area Council levels in St. Louis and Kansas City.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Kirkwood Baptist Church, William Jewell College or a charity of your choice.
